As we made plans for the trip we were really, really hoping that we might see a bear; both Grizzly and American Black Bears were possible.

1. As it turned out we probably saw at least one bear every day or so –Black Bears being by far the more common.
2. The best bear story is about the Black Bear we saw one morning right outside the door to our lodge!
3. We also saw quite a few grizzlies along our route. Although these were usually from a distance, we recognized them instantly by the hump on the back right behind the head.
4. One evening we watched this very light brown Grizzly Bear mom grazing in a field with her very black year-old cub.
